culture

I've been sleeping like a rock lately, so my dreams are coming back in pieces.  Last night I vaguely remember trying to put the Easter Island moai statues in size order with Jennifer.  I also dreamt that I was at a large hotel pool complex watching what I really think was a Shakespeare play being performed on a very elevated platform.  I got one million bug bites all over me, and lept from the deck presumably to land in a pool, but ended up landing next to a very big bed at Whitney's mom's house.  Whit, her mom, and Cat were there playing a board game and asked me to join, which effectively distracted my dream brain from how itchy I was.

snippets

Couple of weird snippets from the past few nights:

  • I was on an interisland Hawaiian flight with Kelii and Hulilau, who had apparently been flying back and forth all day.  Everyone was supposed to get a complimentary cocktail, but the flight attendants refused to let the Wilson's have any more.
  • Dreamt that Jess, Cait, Melissa, Whit and I were on trial for murder.  Apparently we were somehow guilty, but not really, because none of us knew what had actually happened.  When we got to the courthouse, Javora was there with her husband and daughter, who was hiding under a table.  I popped my head under to say hi and see if she recognized me (Jen babysits for her in real life) and she immediately said, "hi! show me your picture and tell me your story!"  I tried to get a hold of Jimmy before the trial started, but he was asleep because he'd been up studying, and didn't answer.
  • Ok now, this is kind of strange, but I have a recurring dream theme that people are watching me while I'm in the bathroom, and I can't go.  Last night, I was in a stall at... I want to say in the dream I was in Kamehameha Schools, and when someone entered the stall next to it, we realized that a wall was missing and we were just starting at each other use the bathroom.  So strange.
  • Also dreamt that Rich was making me an omelette and had made an effort to buy sausage made out of chili (meh?) but while neither of us were looking, Cassidy snuck a whole bunch of ham inside so I couldn't eat it.  Then a bucket of something spilled in the fridge, and it all gets real fuzzy.

sky and sea

Last night I dreamt that I was on the roof of this ludicrously ornate mansion, thinking what a nice place it would be to take wedding photos in front of the sunset.  I went inside and started climbing down these elaborate stairways, with velvet patterned wall papers. I went into the bathroom and found it flooded, and my HPU softball t-shirt was floating around, starched stiff, in the tub.  From there I was waiting for a flight from HNL with Melissa, and the food court situation was much like a cafeteria in school, except it was clear that people had been playing flip cup, and all the cups were too dirty to use. Then Rich and I went to drop off boxes of books at a hospital, but he kept parking really far from the entrance and I didn't think I could carry it.  I started to sort through the books to lighten the load, and realized that there were a ton of books about Hanukkah, so I called mom to confirm that she didn't want them.  I believe the stuffed dancing rabbi Erin bought me was also included in this particular donation.

Two nights ago I was playing basketball in a shopping mall, and Jessica was upset she couldn't join because she had broken her foot. Then Jimmy and I (and other people I don't remember) were in what we assumed was a regular car in a regular place, but was actually a spaceship in outerspace.  It looked MUCH like the south coast of Australia (where the 12 apostles are) and I wanted whoever was driving to pull over so I could take pictures.  They pulled over into some magical extraterrestrial lake where our ship swam with whales.  AMAZING, however, the spaceship then broke down.  We had to call Sahara for help, who came in her Ford Focus with her grandmother.  When she showed up, I remembered that Jimmy was actually dating Sahara and we were only secretly in love.

Frustrated

Dreamt the other night that Max and Christina were in my bedroom grilling hamburgers for their dogs.  I left to grab lunch before a class, and realized I had forgotten to study for my Social Studies test.  I went to the sandwich place and hoped they'd be fast so I would have an extra couple of minutes to review my notes, but they were the OPPOSITE of fast.  The chick behind the counter was adding all kinds of gross things to my wrap and wasn't listening when I said to just leave it alone and let me have it, so finally I just left, sans food.  I was most of the way to class (and wasn't going to have any study time) when I was accosted by the owners of the sandwich stand.  They insisted that I pay for the food I didn't eat, because whether or not I wanted the sandwich, they had used the ingredients on my behalf.  I begrudgingly paid the $7, and they STILL wouldn't give me the food because they "just didn't like me".

Also dreamt that I was driving Jimmy's mom to a board meeting, but kept speeding past my turns and having to make U-turns and wait at the same traffic lights over and over.

Waiting time

Dreamt that I was in the food court at a train station/mall eating a rice ball.  As soon as I got settled with my snack and my sauce, a homeless man sat with me and would not stop talking.  I couldn't think of a way to politely tell him to shut up, so I decided to tell him that I had to leave for my train.  Turns out, it was in fact train time, so I started hustling through the mall part of the train station when I realized I had to pee.  There wasn't any time to do so in the nice, mall bathrooms, so I was going to have to take my chances on the train.

Transformer

Dreamt again about leaving Hawaii, this time I was postponing my flight to get a few extra days of sunshine before I left.

Also dreamt that a fat man in a suit came to my office to ask someone else to apply for a marketing job that I was grossly under qualified for, but I filled out the application on the clipboard anyway. One of the perks was a company car, and I got to see in it action from across a moat.  It was a helicopter that landed on a house and then transformed into a race car, and I kept thinking WHAT AN IRRESPONSIBLE USE OF COMPANY FUNDS!

To and fro

Weird one last night... can't put these segments in order, but here we go:

  • I dropped my iPhone and much to my dismay, the bottom right corner just... fell off.  Two pieces of phone.  I decided to reset the software to the previous hour, convinced that it would work for the physical phone as well.  I reset the phone and then rubbed it against what I can only describe as a sprinkled loaf of bread and wa la! Success.
  • I was supposed to work a half day and go in at like, 4pm.  I usually took the bus from in front of the Carvel on Hicksville Road, and since it was raining, I stopped into Duane Reade to get an umbrella.  I picked one out that had a flamingo pattern on it, waited on line (all the while nervous about missing my bus) and.... purchased something else entirely ( I can't remember what).  The cashier kept asking me a question that I couldn't hear, so I just said no.  I realized after I asked her for a gift receipt and she glared at me that that had been the question all along.  Needless to say, when I asked if I could grab an umbrella and buy it without waiting in line again, she said no.  I went next door to Payless to buy some plastic shoes (you know, that wouldn't get messed up in the rain) and was so pumped that Jellies were back in style and there were plenty to choose from.  For some reason, instead of just buying the shoes and getting on the damn bus, I kept going back and forth from Payless, to Duane Reade, to the sushi place in the middle (which is the only thing that is not actually in the shopping center). The fat white guy that owned the sushi place chased me out because I was getting everything wet. I ran into my mom and Jen outside, and convinced Jennifer to give me an umbrella and my mom to trade shoes with me.  Finally, I was ready for the bus, which I clearly missed.  I called Scott to explain that by the time I took an hour long bus ride (which is how I commuted in Hawaii) to the hour long train (which is how I commute now), I wouldn't be there until 7pm, so I was just going to go home.
  • I ran into William H. Macy in my living room.  He had just returned from Costco and was lamenting the purchase of a 36 pack of 6 different full sized cereals.  After getting it home, he had remembered that he only liked whole wheat cereal.  From there, I was exiting what was supposed to be Lienne's dorm at law school, only to get involved in a paint filled water balloon (paint balloon?) fight.  Felicity Huffman was there, so I got to tell her about her husbands cereal regrets.  Also in attendance: Doug, the Umberto's delivery boy that looks like a panda, and Sam, one of the girls Steve traveled to Uganda with. I eventually exited with my now lovely painted hair, and descended down a back staircase/fire escape into the backyard/elementary school playground, where I saw a Madeline Albright as a child meeting her teacher.
