new year new dreams

Two nights ago I dreamt that Jimmy and I had 3 hours to spend in Hawaii... I can't remember if we were on a layover or if was just the end of our trip. We tried to take a shortcut through the mountains to Lanikai and ended up driving onto roller coaster tracks. I was frantically trying to secure all the loose bottles before we went upside down.

Last night I had a dream that CJ and Elliot were eating banana cream pies, but they wanted vanilla cream pies instead. I apparently thought this was a good time to teach them some life lessons, so I said they could have different pies but they had to ask the pie lady themselves. They didn't want to and both transformed into inanimate objects - Elliot was a lemon, CJ was a lobster toy. I put the lemon and the lobster on the pie lady's counter and explained that the boys had a question to ask. I guess they really wanted pie, because they slowly returned to their human forms to request new desserts. Then the bakery building collapsed, but the boys were fine because they returned to their inanimate states.

welcome back

I dreamed last night that Jimmy and I were having a house party at my parents place. People started arriving in the early afternoon, but I couldn't imbibe because I had my final piano lesson later that afternoon. Mom had set it up for me as a commemorative farewell lesson. I had some pretty serious FOMO so decided to cancel last minute. I called the teacher to tell her I wasn't coming and she asked, "oh ok, is it your stomach or did you take a pill?" To which I answered, "both!". Since I was still sober, I was tasked with a beer run, but no one would accompany me, and no one understood that there was really only so much beer I could carry on my own. Marto came and was really apologetic for having missed so many events. A nameless someone was there and upset that she could only convince one of two jury's that she hadn't burnt down her own dorm room.

swome

Two nights ago I had a dream that I received a letter from Northeastern that my accounts were in "BAD" standing, and I could not graduate. When I looked into what was "bad", I discovered that NEU was disgusted with all of the miles I'd traveled back and forth from home to school, and all the greenhouse gasses I'd emitted. I decided it didn't matter, because I was only there to complete a minor anyway, and I had enough credit to graduate. I drove to the ceremony with Melissa and said hello to all my adoring fans, then looked for Jimmy in the crowd so I could find my alphabetical seat.

Last night was a sort of an in-and-out of body dream - I was reading Swimming Sweet Arrow, which is a real book,  but the things in the dream were most definitely not in the actual book - and there was a large, large family looking for a new place to live. They find what appears to be a one bedroom house - like, a bedroom, with a bathroom, that would never ever fit a family, and also didn't make any sense because there were no kitchen appliances. They opened a second door to ANOTHER bathroom, and through it on the other side was a door to the kitchen (I remember saying in the dream - oh they must have put this bathroom in themselves). The kitchen was small and all the tiles were silver and shiny, but the family decided this was the place. It was on a dock in the ocean (which man, was so clear and blue! I'd have lived there), and everyone started cleaning it up. David came in and asked for masking tape which I assumed was so he could play Edward Forty-hands (is that what it's called?) but then he turned into Lienne who was using her masking taped hand to snorkel and clean all of the algae off the boat that came with the house. Zoom out of the scene to the characters in Swimming Sweet Arrow complaining that they'd all had to chip in for the house, but in the end it was worth it.

what the what

hello, old friends.

a run down of what's been on my mind as of late -

  • Jim and I were on the subway, and it started shaking violently. Someone yells "Get down!" and we all hit the deck, just as the train crashes. We are ok, but people are yelling at me to move, move, move. It's impossibly difficult (because it's a dream) but I do eventually drag myself away from the door I was in front of. People pry the door open and start dragging bodies out of the adjoining car.
  • There's some sort of presentation going on, in a talent show kind of format. Andy from the office goes up and does his thing, than an old friends little sister takes the stage. She wants to read "Oh, Fortuna" but cannot seem to get it together. In a stroke of brilliance, I decide she should play the youtube video that I love so much. I start queuing it up and gesturing wildly to Steve Dixon in the audience that he's going to LOVE this.
  • I'm either watching a movie trailer or I am Sophia Bush in the movie trailer where I think it's real (I don't know). I'm/she's sort of voluntarily kidnapped by a madman, and has to skin bodies for three years before she can negotiate the terms of her release.
  • I'm with a bunch of people, Paul Walker (RIP!) among them. People start coupling off until it's just Paul and I left. We canoodle - I'm sad all over again.
  • I get to meet Damian Lewis (except I never remember his name so in dreamland he's Sgt. Winters) and I'm beside myself with glee. I accidentally tell him how he's being spied on and his house is bugged, and he can't forgive me, even though I didn't do it! DISTRAUGHT.
  • Jen and I go to Marshalls which is open for browsing but CLOSED FOR PURCHASES. Torture us, why don't you?!
  • Courtney finds a passport buried in snow outside Jim's parents house. She tasks me with dropping it off, since the owner lives "just down the street". Jim is too busy for me because he has plans to go to the strip club. My family is waiting for me in the car, so they are nice enough to take me to drop off this passport. Adventure ensues. We walk to the end of a dock that is supposed to connect across the way, and fall into the water! I freak out because Terry can't swim, but he's fine. We make it across to what I remember as a seedy hotel and hand off the passport, though not to it's owner. O well, we tried.
  • I'm in Hawaii with mom and Jen, and while trying to view the sunset across a lake, mom steps off the boardwalk and falls into water (omg pattern). I have to dive in and look for her glasses.
  • I'm in a helicopter on some sort of secret mission - then I'm free falling out of it and the bad guy has hold of my shoes. For some reason, this means the kiss of death, so I struggle to get the shoe off. Bad guy drops it, and I continue to free fall/dive for it because I MUST have that shoe back.

Priorities

Dreamt last night that we had a morning kickball game, so I was trying to email work to tell them I'd be late. My phone was acting up, so I kept not actually getting the email out. En route to the game, Jim and I stopped in some shop thing where he tried the stir fry steak and peppers on sample. The woman behind the counter, and 60something year old white woman, tried to convince us to pose for some erotic photos, and showed us the examples starring her. We escaped from that horrifying display to the kickball field, when I suddenly realized it was 11:15 and I still hadn't contacted work. Email still wasn't working, so I called the Helpdesk line to talk to Julie. She picked up, but I had the hardest time hearing her - then I realized I was talking to her on a fortune cookie, not a phone. She had a bunch of questions about Boston that I couldn't answer, plus it was my turn to kick. Couldn't get to the plate in time, so Whitney pinch hit.

ocean adventures

Monday night, I dreamed that I was in a 7-11 buying beer after a funeral.  Mom grabbed a 12 pack of something gross, so I dug around for something better.  I found what should have been a 2 pack of 22 ounce Magic Hats, but there was only one.  I asked the clerk to see if the loose bottle was in the back, otherwise, I'd pay half for the one.  I ended up taking just one, and when I got home I realized that it wasn't beer at all, but was in fact Magic Hat brand sandwich vinegar.  I also bought a TV to play video games on, and was upset that I hadn't used my 20% off coupon.

Last night I dreamed something about going to the beach to teach Dad how to surf, but the waves were crazy high (you know the kind) and crashing over the seawall, so we decided against it.  Jen was there and took an incredible, Clark Little-like photo, which inspired me to try to get some of my own.  When I went to grab my phone, I realized that my bag was submerged and my phone was quite wet.

From there, I dreamt that I was getting ready for work and for whatever reason decided to wear these weird patterned thermal pajama legging things.  I parked at Wantagh station and someone was charging a parking fee because there was a game going on (in real life I would have been so mad, but in dream land I was ok with it).  Jen was with me, and we were sitting in a waiting room when we realized that the train was already there.  We ran up the stairs and onto the train, and ended up on these high stool seats.  Suddenly Henry Winkler appeared, and asked if we wanted to go to Deck 22.  I realized that it wasn't a train at all but a yacht/cruise ship, and the waiting room we had been in was actually a lower level of the atrium, and we were now looking down into it.  I panicked that our tickets weren't going to cover boat fare, so we followed Henry before a conductor could find us.  We went up a little ladder to an outside deck, and Henry pointed out all the different Hawaiian Islands we were passing by.

bus stopped

Last night I dreamed that I drove myself somewhere to take a bus, but had to park super far away and walk so far that I ended up back at my house.  The bus was coming down the street but for whatever reason, I was incapable of moving fast enough to get to the stop, so I grabbed a can of aerosol bug spray from my bag and rolled it in front of the bus so it would know I was there and it should stop for me.  When I got to school, all of the sewers and drains were overflowing to the point where floods and drowning were a very real risk, and somehow I was in charge of stopping it.  I don't know if I succeeded or not, but I do know there was a crocodile involved.

Snippets from last night include drinking Umberto's brand vodka at their marina location, and trying to pack all of my National Geographic's in a backpack.

compilation

A couple of nights ago, I dreamt I was under a dock type structure with a group of people trying to move a beam either from the old World Trade Center of for the new one... it's unclear which.  We were flipping it end over end the long way, which was terribly ineffective because 1. we were up to our waists in water and 2. IT WAS HUGE.  From there, we competed in a lacrosse competition and the whole team was god awful except for Jimmy.

Tuesday night I dreamt that I drove to Boston for the day to see Matt, Kelii and Jen while they were in town.  We played lacrosse with the Obama's and then I went to the parking garage to get my car.  I had taken the time to cover all of my bags and things in the back with my Hawaii towels... but I had left all of the doors open. Everything was there, but I couldn't shake the panic!

THEN on Wednesday, I dreamt that I was waiting on line at the post office with Carla and Nora (even though they weren't really Carla and Nora because they were the most blonde).  The line was really long and winding, and even though there were 7 people behind the counter, only one of them was working.  It seemed like everyone was buying balloons, and there was no clear path to exit once you had your balloons, so it was just a hot mess of no one knowing what was going on.  There were a bunch of Halloween decorations for sale while we waited in line, and I ended up with like a paper cut out of bats that made the shape of half a Jackolantern.  From there things get confusing... I was on a safari and out in a field, except there was a convenience store there and one of the safari goers was being arrested for sexual harassment.  After she got taken into custody, a tiger approached us.  I was with one other person and I guess we had been told that in a scenario like this, we should lay down and play dead and hopefully it would leave us be (I think that's the actual M.O. when you come into contact with a bear).  ANYWAY, it didn't really work on the tiger, and he started nibbling on my yoga pants.  After that I had sort of an out of body dream experience... I was narrating the story from some time in the future, and it turned out that the tiger ate my butt and my hands, and I felt guilty that my fellow safari goers had to deal with all the gore.  MESSED UP.

culture

I've been sleeping like a rock lately, so my dreams are coming back in pieces.  Last night I vaguely remember trying to put the Easter Island moai statues in size order with Jennifer.  I also dreamt that I was at a large hotel pool complex watching what I really think was a Shakespeare play being performed on a very elevated platform.  I got one million bug bites all over me, and lept from the deck presumably to land in a pool, but ended up landing next to a very big bed at Whitney's mom's house.  Whit, her mom, and Cat were there playing a board game and asked me to join, which effectively distracted my dream brain from how itchy I was.

snippets

Couple of weird snippets from the past few nights:

  • I was on an interisland Hawaiian flight with Kelii and Hulilau, who had apparently been flying back and forth all day.  Everyone was supposed to get a complimentary cocktail, but the flight attendants refused to let the Wilson's have any more.
  • Dreamt that Jess, Cait, Melissa, Whit and I were on trial for murder.  Apparently we were somehow guilty, but not really, because none of us knew what had actually happened.  When we got to the courthouse, Javora was there with her husband and daughter, who was hiding under a table.  I popped my head under to say hi and see if she recognized me (Jen babysits for her in real life) and she immediately said, "hi! show me your picture and tell me your story!"  I tried to get a hold of Jimmy before the trial started, but he was asleep because he'd been up studying, and didn't answer.
  • Ok now, this is kind of strange, but I have a recurring dream theme that people are watching me while I'm in the bathroom, and I can't go.  Last night, I was in a stall at... I want to say in the dream I was in Kamehameha Schools, and when someone entered the stall next to it, we realized that a wall was missing and we were just starting at each other use the bathroom.  So strange.
  • Also dreamt that Rich was making me an omelette and had made an effort to buy sausage made out of chili (meh?) but while neither of us were looking, Cassidy snuck a whole bunch of ham inside so I couldn't eat it.  Then a bucket of something spilled in the fridge, and it all gets real fuzzy.

sky and sea

Last night I dreamt that I was on the roof of this ludicrously ornate mansion, thinking what a nice place it would be to take wedding photos in front of the sunset.  I went inside and started climbing down these elaborate stairways, with velvet patterned wall papers. I went into the bathroom and found it flooded, and my HPU softball t-shirt was floating around, starched stiff, in the tub.  From there I was waiting for a flight from HNL with Melissa, and the food court situation was much like a cafeteria in school, except it was clear that people had been playing flip cup, and all the cups were too dirty to use. Then Rich and I went to drop off boxes of books at a hospital, but he kept parking really far from the entrance and I didn't think I could carry it.  I started to sort through the books to lighten the load, and realized that there were a ton of books about Hanukkah, so I called mom to confirm that she didn't want them.  I believe the stuffed dancing rabbi Erin bought me was also included in this particular donation.

Two nights ago I was playing basketball in a shopping mall, and Jessica was upset she couldn't join because she had broken her foot. Then Jimmy and I (and other people I don't remember) were in what we assumed was a regular car in a regular place, but was actually a spaceship in outerspace.  It looked MUCH like the south coast of Australia (where the 12 apostles are) and I wanted whoever was driving to pull over so I could take pictures.  They pulled over into some magical extraterrestrial lake where our ship swam with whales.  AMAZING, however, the spaceship then broke down.  We had to call Sahara for help, who came in her Ford Focus with her grandmother.  When she showed up, I remembered that Jimmy was actually dating Sahara and we were only secretly in love.

Frustrated

Dreamt the other night that Max and Christina were in my bedroom grilling hamburgers for their dogs.  I left to grab lunch before a class, and realized I had forgotten to study for my Social Studies test.  I went to the sandwich place and hoped they'd be fast so I would have an extra couple of minutes to review my notes, but they were the OPPOSITE of fast.  The chick behind the counter was adding all kinds of gross things to my wrap and wasn't listening when I said to just leave it alone and let me have it, so finally I just left, sans food.  I was most of the way to class (and wasn't going to have any study time) when I was accosted by the owners of the sandwich stand.  They insisted that I pay for the food I didn't eat, because whether or not I wanted the sandwich, they had used the ingredients on my behalf.  I begrudgingly paid the $7, and they STILL wouldn't give me the food because they "just didn't like me".

Also dreamt that I was driving Jimmy's mom to a board meeting, but kept speeding past my turns and having to make U-turns and wait at the same traffic lights over and over.

Waiting time

Dreamt that I was in the food court at a train station/mall eating a rice ball.  As soon as I got settled with my snack and my sauce, a homeless man sat with me and would not stop talking.  I couldn't think of a way to politely tell him to shut up, so I decided to tell him that I had to leave for my train.  Turns out, it was in fact train time, so I started hustling through the mall part of the train station when I realized I had to pee.  There wasn't any time to do so in the nice, mall bathrooms, so I was going to have to take my chances on the train.

Transformer

Dreamt again about leaving Hawaii, this time I was postponing my flight to get a few extra days of sunshine before I left.

Also dreamt that a fat man in a suit came to my office to ask someone else to apply for a marketing job that I was grossly under qualified for, but I filled out the application on the clipboard anyway. One of the perks was a company car, and I got to see in it action from across a moat.  It was a helicopter that landed on a house and then transformed into a race car, and I kept thinking WHAT AN IRRESPONSIBLE USE OF COMPANY FUNDS!

To and fro

Weird one last night... can't put these segments in order, but here we go:

  • I dropped my iPhone and much to my dismay, the bottom right corner just... fell off.  Two pieces of phone.  I decided to reset the software to the previous hour, convinced that it would work for the physical phone as well.  I reset the phone and then rubbed it against what I can only describe as a sprinkled loaf of bread and wa la! Success.
  • I was supposed to work a half day and go in at like, 4pm.  I usually took the bus from in front of the Carvel on Hicksville Road, and since it was raining, I stopped into Duane Reade to get an umbrella.  I picked one out that had a flamingo pattern on it, waited on line (all the while nervous about missing my bus) and.... purchased something else entirely ( I can't remember what).  The cashier kept asking me a question that I couldn't hear, so I just said no.  I realized after I asked her for a gift receipt and she glared at me that that had been the question all along.  Needless to say, when I asked if I could grab an umbrella and buy it without waiting in line again, she said no.  I went next door to Payless to buy some plastic shoes (you know, that wouldn't get messed up in the rain) and was so pumped that Jellies were back in style and there were plenty to choose from.  For some reason, instead of just buying the shoes and getting on the damn bus, I kept going back and forth from Payless, to Duane Reade, to the sushi place in the middle (which is the only thing that is not actually in the shopping center). The fat white guy that owned the sushi place chased me out because I was getting everything wet. I ran into my mom and Jen outside, and convinced Jennifer to give me an umbrella and my mom to trade shoes with me.  Finally, I was ready for the bus, which I clearly missed.  I called Scott to explain that by the time I took an hour long bus ride (which is how I commuted in Hawaii) to the hour long train (which is how I commute now), I wouldn't be there until 7pm, so I was just going to go home.
  • I ran into William H. Macy in my living room.  He had just returned from Costco and was lamenting the purchase of a 36 pack of 6 different full sized cereals.  After getting it home, he had remembered that he only liked whole wheat cereal.  From there, I was exiting what was supposed to be Lienne's dorm at law school, only to get involved in a paint filled water balloon (paint balloon?) fight.  Felicity Huffman was there, so I got to tell her about her husbands cereal regrets.  Also in attendance: Doug, the Umberto's delivery boy that looks like a panda, and Sam, one of the girls Steve traveled to Uganda with. I eventually exited with my now lovely painted hair, and descended down a back staircase/fire escape into the backyard/elementary school playground, where I saw a Madeline Albright as a child meeting her teacher.

Draft from 8/24/11

Drafted, never published (8/24/2011)

Weird conglomeration of things in my dreams the last two nights. Monday, I dreamt that I was at the Grand Canyon with Jennifer, trying to find somewhere to park, but all of the parking lots were underwater. Then we were in an underwater version of Arches National Park, were all of the rock formations were above water but there was no ground. We were swimming? or on a small island? in the middle of the murky water and I dropped my camera.

Morning Rush

The only thing I can distinctly remember from last night was waking up to get ready for work and not being able to get into the bathroom because Jim Quinn was showering.

Snippets include: guards in thermal, camouflage onesies, and a family escaping said guards on a school bus.

More to come if more comes back...

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

Welp, six months seems a long enough reprieve... I don't have anything solid to report, but here are my most recent dream fragments (gotta start somewhere, right?!)

  • Dreamt that I was at the supermarket trying to find things to stir-fry for Steve Dixon. All of the green beans in the store were gross looking, so I ended up with approximately 5 of them, and was beating myself up trying to remember if he ate snow peas or not.  Steve showed up to help out, but was generally despondent because someone had spilled a beer on his head and drenched his favorite Sox hat.
  • Dreamt that I was in Disney World with my mom and Jimmy, taking pictures with Nuglet 1.0 (RIP)
  • Dreamt that Jessica and I ran into Melissa while waiting for a train... Melissa was fuhreaking out because we were waiting on the wrong track.  We jumped across the tracks to get to the train, and shoved our way on past businessmen who offered to buy our student fare tickets for us as a nice gesture.  Some old mean guy started yelling that we were NOT students, and we should buy our own damn train fare. Jerk.
  • ...something about using Erin's TurbieTwist after a shower.

chronoptimistic

Dreamt last night that I took the time to investigate where my interview on Monday was going to be, down to determining where the nearest dry cleaner was to what codes I'd need in the parking garages.  Come interview day, I was waiting in the lobby with Jess, Melissa and Whitney, and I realized I wasn't dressed appropriately at all.  I tried on their clothes but nothing made sense, and the shirt I had left with the dry cleaner wasn't clean or dry.  I went home to find something else, and must have fallen asleep or something because at 2:55 someone pointed out that I was most definitely going to be late.  Jennifer was driving me there so I could finish assembling myself in the passenger seat and try to email/call the interviewers to tell them I was stuck in traffic or whatever.  By the time 3:45 rolled around and we were still in the car, I'd given up.

Fast forward and I'm on some kind of cruise/vacation package digging through a cooler looking for some Wailua Wheat.  I had to stop my hunt prematurely because Erin and Jess Salem had to leave early... something about birds.  Which actually makes a lot of sense now that I think about it.

Crocodilia

Had a weird mash-up dream last night in which I was driving cross-country and stopped to get gas with Jennifer, but after I got the pump all set up the car started rolling backwards down a hill.  She pulled the emergency brake but to no avail, so I had to chase the car down and throw her the keys so she should drive it back up.  By the time we got the car situated, $10 worth of gas had been completely wasted, and somehow I was now filling up a moped, which takes approximately one gallon of gas.  I tried to complain to management but they wouldn't reimburse me, so I left in a huff and waited for my parents outside, where I found some girl (who I think I knew in the dream) trying to melt her engagement ring into an ice sculpture because she didn't want it anymore.  Some things happened that I can't really remember, then I was on a beach watching Melissa looking for one of her missing kindergartners (apparently she was a teacher and one of her students had gone missing). The lifeguard found the kid alive and well and brought it back to shore, and the water was bizarrely deep right at the break.  Shortly after that, a giant crocodile emerged so we started evacuating people from the beach into this big house.  I had to try to explain to some old lady that didn't speak English what a croc was, and I kept telling her it was like a dinosaur, but not extinct.  Anyway, the dinosaur attacked after we thought everyone was inside, but Gerzon got left behind.  Flash forward and I'm in the car with Rich and someone else driving somewhere, and he accidentally drove up a roller coaster track, thinking it was the road.  We safely backed up out of danger, and found ourselves in an art class painting tote bags with "truncated" pictures.  The girl next to me kept talking about her friend Gerzon and I was convinced that somehow he had time traveled from croc attack into this girls life.
